Life Chiropractic College West (Life West) and California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) announced a strategic partnership that will see Life West relocating its facilities to CSUEB’s Hayward campus by mid-2027.
Life West President Peter J. Kevorkian and CSUEB President Cathy Sandeen announced the collaboration on Instagram in December.
“We are looking for collaboration, connection, and affiliation with both of our institutions. It’s going to be a magical time,” Dr. Kevorkian said.
“Hayward Mayor Mark Salinas has identified Hayward as an education city, and we are proving that’s true. We’re collaborating two major educational institutions here in the city, and are now working much more closely together,” Sandeen added.
Life West currently offers chiropractic services to CSUEB students through the Student Health Center. Life West student interns provide supervised care for patients depending on individual needs to promote healthy mobility, healing, and overall functioning. Appointments can be scheduled through the Student Health Center for $15 per visit.
CSUEB’s Student Health Center initiated the partnership with Life West last year to expand its offerings of medical services, while simultaneously providing a novel and valuable learning experience for Life West student interns.
“Students have been very enthusiastic about having chiropractic services available conveniently on campus. We are seeing a lot of students come back for follow-up appointments, and the feedback has been very positive,” said Shauna Hong, current interim director of Counseling and Health Services at CSUEB.
Life West chose CSUEB as its new home due to the abundant campus resources and facilities, including dining services, student housing, and the campus library. Both universities believe the partnership will benefit students from their respective campuses in unique ways.
“CSUEB students will benefit from enhanced campus vitality and utilization, reinforcing CSUEB as an educational hub and bringing additional life to campus,” said CSUEB Associate Vice President Mark Almeida.
Life West assures it will remain an independent institution, with its Doctor of Chiropractic degree program also remaining independent. They are expected to sign a long-term lease for space in Robinson Hall, providing CSUEB with additional revenue. Partnership funding will not be diverted from existing CSUEB programs.
Life West expects to fully complete its transition to CSUEB by mid-2027. Both Life West and CSUEB are continually looking forward to providing new opportunities to enhance student life while promoting future academic collaborations.
