Former 12-term Congressman of Texas, and three-time candidate for President of the United States, Ron Paul, will be at CSU East Bay on April 9, at 4pm in the theater to give a speech called “Liberty Defined: The Future of Freedom,” according to a press release.

“It’s an absolutely essential message for college students to hear. College students are the next generation of decision makers,” said Stephen Shmanske, Director of the Smith Center for Private Enterprise Studies.

The Smith Center for Private Enterprise Studies, a joint sponsor of this event, considers itself a “ a free market think tank of CSUEB,” who, “sponsors lectures, research, seminars, conferences, and courses for future leaders in business and society to learn how the principles of free enterprise build a strong economy.”

The Independent Institute, an educational organization based in Oakland, Calif., is a cosponsor for Paul’s speech.  They state that he will possibly cover anything from government spending and debt to “ever increasing health care and education costs,” to “intrusive federal surveillance and endless wars.”

Yet, according to The Independent Institute, his main message is likely to be consistent with what he has been advocating in Congress for 24 years: the need to “rein in unchecked government power.”

This event will be fully sponsored by both organizations, and is of no expenditure to state funding for the hosting or compensation of Paul’s speech.

Attendance to the event is free, however but must first a place must be reserved at www.independent.org or by contacting the The Independent Institute.  Tickets to Paul’s event and are on a first come, first serve basis.

After the free speech, there will be a subsequent, separately ticketed reception and book signing at 6:30 in CSU East Bay’s New University Union.  Reception tickets are available for $75.
