Gym now requires manual locks on lockers

As of the end of March, the digital locks, which were installed in the original building of the Recreation and Wellness Center, were removed from the lockers in the men’s & women’s locker rooms and were retrofitted for a padlock due to technical problems.

According to Sports and Activities Coordinator Corey Gazay, the technical problems include batteries dying in the electronic locks while students had items in the lockers and students not remembering the entry passcode. “Technology is great when it’s functioning, but it just wasn’t working,” explains Gazay.

An email sent out by ASI Campus Recreation last Thursday stated that, “Locks remaining on lockers at the end of the day will be cut and items removed. Members will have seven days to pick up their belongings from the equipment rental counter before the items are discarded or donated. ASI Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.”

The change is effective immediately. Padlocks will not be provided, but locks are available at the equipment rental counter for $5. Only credit, debit or Bay Bucks are accepted. All lockers accept standard size locks and must be removed by the end of the day.
