One suspect has been arrested in an ongoing investigation by police of a firearm being reported in the Pioneer Heights dorms on April 26.

According to campus Police Chief Sheryl Boykins four young men suspected to have had the weapon on campus were detained, and the dorms were evacuated for the safety of the students.

The four young men accused of having the weapon are not CSUEB students and warrants were sent out for their arrests by an allied agency.

To date, Boykins said only one of the four has been arrested.

At this time, the incident is still being investigated, and only limited information can be provided.

After a thorough 2-hour search of the premise, there was no weapon to be found, but there was evidence that a weapon, may have, at one time been there.

“We suspect [the weapon] was removed before we arrived at and entered the housing unit,” said Boykins.

“We look at any object that is described as a weapon and that falls under any number of California Penal Code statutes, as contraband and is unlawful to possess on campus (626.10 pc),” said Boykins.

Fliers with the faces of the young men were distributed to staff at Pioneer Heights in the dorms to inform staff members to contact campus police if the suspects are seen on campus.

“I do not believe any students are at risk from anyone involved in this incident,” said Boykins.
