Campus Sports: News in Brief

Water Polo:
The Pioneers were able to hold off CSU Bakersfield on Saturday Feb. 25, defeating the Roadrunners, 13-12 improving their conference record to 2-1. Senior Carly Clark led the scoring attack for the Pioneers with four goals followed by junior Claire Pierce and senior Erica Crain with three scores a piece.
The team will travel to Thornton, Colorado this weekend for the Colorado State Tournament and will square off against the home team Colorado State on Saturday, Mar. 3.

Baseball:
The men’s baseball team was swept by Sonoma State over the weekend in a four-game set. On Friday, Feb. 24, the Pioneers lost their first game, 2-10 and their second game, 0-1. On Saturday, Feb. 25, the Pioneers suffered the same fate losing both their games by scores of 7-12 and 5-6.
The Pioneers will try to rebound from a tough weekend as they will host UC San Diego for a four-game series at home this weekend.

Softball:
In dominant fashion, the Pioneers defeated Dominican University in Tuesday’s doubleheader by scores of 12-0 and 5-1.
Over the weekend however, the Pioneers were swept by Sonoma State in a four game series. On Friday, Feb. 24, CSUEB dropped both their games by a score of 7-9, then 0-9 in the later game. On Saturday, Feb. 25, the Pioneers were still not able to get the ball rolling losing both games by scores of 2-8 and 0-7.
This weekend, they will travel to CSU Monterey Bay for a four-game series set to start on Friday.

Track:
On Saturday, Mar. 3, the Pioneer track team will begin the 2012 campaign in Turlock for the Kim Duyst Invitational.
