Racist graffiti prompts closure

A lockdown was issued yesterday at San Leandro High School around 11 a.m. after graffiti was discovered in a boys bathroom stall that read, “I’m shooting the School tomorrow at 1 I’m sick of this shit Better not come Fuck this place,” according to the San Leandro Police Department.

The SLPD searched the campus but did not find any guns, the lockdown was lifted around 12:45 p.m., according to a statement from Lt. Isaac Benabou. According to San Leandro Unified School District Superintendent Mike McLaughlin, the school will be closed Thursday as a precaution.

All of this happened on the day that thousands of students across the Bay Area and the country were participating in March for Our Lives, a walkout to put pressure on congress for stricter gun control laws following the Parkland, Florida school shooting last month.

At the time of publication it was not confirmed if the school would remain closed and for how long.
