If you were on campus on August 13th, you would have noticed that the University Union was usually lively for the middle of the summer.
Cal State East Bay was hosting a Campus Recourse Carnival to grab the attention of the new crop of incoming freshmen on the same day as one of the freshmen orientations.
A disc jockey was spinning the ones and twos, Frisbees were thrown, and there was even a bag-toss sighting.
A myriad of campus organizations and clubs were at the event vying for attention. Whether it was the ASI, Student Health Services, the Saudi Arabian Student Association, or the ROTC Golden Bear Battalion (just to name a few) the diverse opportunities that allow students to get involved in campus life were well represented.
Orientation is an important time for new students to settle in and get a sense of what their next few years will be like at CSUEB. It is also a great event for campus groups looking to raise their visibility.
“These events and the first two weeks of school are ‘real important’ for the fraternities recruitment,” said Ari of Delta Chi.
For a school that does not have football games to attend and is sometimes limited by its commuter school status, events like the Recourse Carnival are a great way for students at CSUEB to mingle and enjoy a sunny day on the hilltop.
The next event will be held Aug. 27 and will have new recruits rushing to a sorority or fraternity, or showing the Army ROTC representatives how many push-ups they can do, and maybe even get a little Pioneer spirit while they’re at it.
