Berkeley: UC Berkeley officials recently introduced a proposal that would allow UC institutions to individually determine tuition costs and enrollment caps. “Under the plan, the UC Board of Regents would remain in charge of overarching policy matters such as admissions standards, state funding, negotiating union contracts, hiring chancellors and overseeing pension funds,” the Associated Press reports, but the institution will have full control over any issue related to tuition. When the Board of Regents will vote on the proposal is unkown.

San Leandro: The California Nurses Association is planning a one-day strike on May 1 at San Leandro Hospital to express their disapproval of recent staffing and budget cuts, as well as the current state of patient care. The strike will also affect other institutions controlled by Sutter Health, the San Leandro Patch reports. Approximately 4,500 nurses will be affected by the stirke, according to Patch. The association has held similar walk-outs in the past for related issues.
