Yoga Comes to Local Parks

Lululemon instructors will usually take their classes outside, especially when the weather is nice.

For those looking for a fun activity on the weekend, Lululemon Athletica—a yoga and run based clothing store—offers complementary Yoga in the Park every Sunday for anyone to enjoy.

“Serenity Sundays,” as some stores call this Yoga in the Park event, is every Sunday where a Lululemon store is located.

“It is a great way for us to give back to the community and allow them to recharge and start off the week in the best way possible- through Yoga,” said Shannon Brock, a manager of the Corte Madera store.  “Not to mention it’s free and most of the time outdoors.”

The classes are for all levels, including people who have never even attempted to try yoga, and are led by some of the best instructors from the surrounding area.

Lululemon employees, called educators, said that getting to know their community is very important to them.  Additionally, allowing people the chance to stay active and healthy is what the company is all about.

“Some of the yoga classes are led by ambassadors, which are instructors we feature in our store and have been some of the most fascinating instructors we have met,” said Deondra Nicole, another educator at Lululemon.

As a nursing student, Nicole understands that life can get stressful and believes that taking yoga once a week helps her stay focused and thankful for what she has.

These classes are sometimes followed by nutrition seminars, juice and smoothie tastings, and goal coaching lessons—all free of charge.

Katrina Flint, a recent graduate of San Diego State, said she was amazed to find not only a free outdoor yoga class for all skill levels, but also “a group of people who genuinely cared about my goals and well being.”

It was always hard for her to find time as a student to take care of her own personal needs and Lululemon yoga allowed her to do so, said Flint.

Lululemon provides a calendar online of all the yoga events and background information on who is leading them. Yoga mats are also provided for those who don’t have one.

According to their manifesto, Lululemon believes that taking an hour out of the week to participate in a yoga class will help you “remain active in physical sports as you age.”

The educators at Lululemon said they are always excited to see new faces and to provide many opportunities to discuss their goals in terms of fitness, health and life.
