Solar Eruption May be Visible To Bay Area Residents

Depending on where you live, the 2010 solar Tsunami may be visible to you.

Since the Bay Area’s weather sporadically changes and has the tendency to fog up at night, this light show may not be visible if the night sky isn’t clear. The solar tsunami will only be visible to those who are in more rural areas, with not many city lights.

In recent weeks, NASA’s solar satellites caught an eruption at the sun’s surface.

During a solar eruption, the sun’s particles collide with atoms of nitrogen and oxygen in the Earth’s atmosphere, which then glow, creating an effect similar to miniature neon signs.

At the NASA observatory they caught a massive solar plasma cloud on the satellite’s footage. Plasma clouds are composed of Solar flares that are directed towards earth. The solar plasma blasted off of the Sun’s surface at incredible speeds that unlike anything here on earth.

Although Solar storms are very violent and powerful, they pose little threat to earth. What could possibly be affected by this Solar Tsunami is the radio communication coming from the satellites which are orbiting close to earth.
