Fun Activities For Summer Time

Nobody finishes their summer and thinks, “Boy, I really wish I had spent more time on the couch.”

That being said, it’s time to get out there and try something new. Here are a few things guaranteed to bring unforgettable memories and cross off some items off your bucket list, all without having to leave Northern California.

Many people say that skydiving is something they want to do but they never get around to doing. This summer might be the right time for you.

There are several locations around the Bay Area that offer skydiving, but location makes a big difference. Making the trip to Stockton is cheaper, but there are also points near the coast.

I went to a skydiving company out of Monterey where the view was incredible, but it cost over $300.

Another option for the adrenaline addicts to try is bungee jumping. There are not very many places in Northern California that offer bungee jumping, so if you’re interested, it’s best to call and book early.

Typically, these companies offer discounts for larger groups, so the more people you can talk into jumping off a bridge the better.

If freefalling between 10 to 18 thousand feet doesn’t sound like your idea of fun, horseback riding is another exciting summer activity.  You can ride horses pretty much anywhere, but Mar Vista Stables in Daly City offers rides on the beach.

For about $40, they take you down the cliffs at Ocean Beach. The ride takes about an hour and is a great date for couples looking to try something different.

If you’re looking to escape the heat, California has many rivers perfect for whitewater rafting. Depending on where you go, expect to pay between $100-200. There are lots of companies that set up rafting trips and offer one or two day trips.  With the long rainy season we had this year, the rivers are sure to be full of wild rapids.

Summertime is a great time to learn a new skill, so why not try out some dance lessons?

There are dance schools everywhere, teaching everything from traditional ballroom to hip-hop, and everything in between. Personally I’ve always wanted to learn salsa dancing. Nothing gets the girls going like a guy that can move on the dance floor.

If you’re looking for a new way to hang out by the beach, sea kayaking might be the right adventure for you. This is a relatively inexpensive day trip and can be done pretty much everywhere along the coast. The length of the trip varies by what you are looking for, but it’s a great way to check out some wildlife and soak up the summer sun.

If you are looking for a fun day without emptying your wallet, the East Bay Regional Park District has lots of hiking trails, lakes and rivers. These places are great for a day trip and many locations offer inexpensive overnight camping, but you need to bring your own gear.
