California Senator Kamala Harris officially launched her campaign for the Democratic Presidential Nomination with a rally at Frank Ogawa Plaza in her hometown of Oakland, Calif. on Jan. 27, 2019. An estimated 20,000 people came to the rally, with many supporters braving long lines to see the presidential candidate. Sen. Harris spoke about decisions she has made while California Attorney General and in the Senate by telling the crowd, “I’m not perfect. Lord knows, I’m not perfect.” She denounced President Trump and his administration policies surrounding border patrol and terrorism. “When white supremacists march and murder in Charlottesville or massacre innocent worshippers in a Pittsburgh Synagogue, that’s not our America. When we have children in cages crying for their mothers and fathers, don’t you dare call that border security, that’s a human rights abuse!” Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf introduced Kamala as her personal friend that she has known for over 20 years and that she believes that she has the experience needed to be President.
