Creating New Worlds

As an award-winning Hollywood production designer, Scott Chambliss has been responsible for crafting and creating new worlds for television and cinema.  Over the course of his professional career, he has worked on numerous projects, including the hit TV show Alias, and the feature films Mission Impossible III, Cowboys and Aliens, Salt, Star Trek, and Star Trek Into Darkness.

When Chambliss was growing up in Tracy, California, he was an aspiring artist who discovered happiness and satisfaction through designing the sets for his high school plays.  As a college undergraduate, he joined the Theater and Dance department at CSU Hayward where he helped design and produce the college’s plays.  There Chambliss met and worked with professors like Edgardo de la Cruz, Regina Cate, and Thomas Hird, people he credits with teaching him the skills that formed the foundation of his work as a production designer today.

Chambliss visited the campus April 24th through the 26th, reconnecting with old friends and interacting with the current crop of students.  “I have so much gratitude for the education I received here,” he stated, and observed that he viewed his visit as an opportunity to give something back to the university.
