Berkeley:
At its latest city council meeting, the Berkeley City Council reversed its previously opposed decision to help University of California, Berkeley police on campus when they request assistance. The city council voted against the initial agreement in November due to its disapproval of the university’s police protocol when handling student protests last year. Police Chief Michael Meehan and Interim City Manager Christine Daniel lead the initiative to convince the council to reverse the decision, according to the Berkeley Voice.

Oakland:
The California Department of Transportation announced Wednesday they will shut down the upper-deck of the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge from 8 p.m. Feb. 17 to 5 a.m. Feb. 21. The closure is meant to provide construction crews additional space to build a new portion of the bridge that will stretch from Oakland to Yerba Buena Island. The lower-deck will remain open to traffic.

San Francisco:
Mayor Ed Lee was in support of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s plan to install thousands of parking meters in the northeast Mission, Dogpatch and Potrero Hill. San Francisco official’s voiced that they were not in favor of the installation in January, due to the strong opposition of residents and local business owners. Mayor Lee told the San Francisco Chronicle that the “proposal was not [yet] dead.” Residents expressed concern about the costliness of the meters.

Richmond:
The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory selected Richmond for the site of its second campus. The Richmond campus will serve as a research station of University of California, Berkeley. The city council and community members openly expressed their support for the campus in a recent press release.
