News in Brief

Men’s Basketball:
The Pioneers will try to get back on track this weekend after losses last week to Humboldt State, 78-86 and Sonoma State, 63-96. This week marks Homecoming week and the Pioneers will welcome in San Francisco State for the Battle of the Bay on Friday night Feb. 10. On Saturday night, Feb.12 the Pioneers will welcome in Pomona State for the Homecoming game where the athletic department is set to honor and welcome back Pioneer alumni to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Women’s basketball:
The women’s squad fared well in their matchups last week as they defeated both Humboldt State by a final score of 57-52 and Sonoma State, 62-50. They will try to keep their winning streak going this week in their Homecoming matchups against SFSU and Pomona State this weekend.

Swimming:
This week the Pioneers will be in Long Beach for the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC) Championships from Feb. 8-11. The championship will close out the season.

Water Polo:
The Pioneers opened the 2012 water polo campaign and have started 1-0 in the conference and have a 2-2 overall record after their matchups over the weekend. East Bay will travel to the Triton Invitational in La Jolla and will open the tournament against Loyola Marymount on Saturday, Feb. 11

Softball:
After competing in the Grand Canyon University Kickoff classic from Feb. 4-5 and starting the season with a 4-2 overall record, The Pioneers will open the home and California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) seasons with a four-game set against San Francisco State. The Pioneers and Gators are scheduled to open the first of two Homecoming week doubleheaders on Friday, Feb. 10
