Oakland: Oakland judges issued a restraining order against 12 Occupy Oakland protesters yesterday who were charged with felonies for the vandalism and chaos they caused in downtown Oakland Jan. 28. The order makes it illegal for demonstrators to come within 300 feet of Frank Ogawa Plaza, home of city hall and former grounds for the Occupy encampment. Protestors affiliated with the vandalism were also ordered to steer clear of the vacant Kaiser Convention Center.
Berkeley: University of California, Berkeley held a forum Tuesday in search of public recommendations regarding proper police protocol when responding to protests. Organized by the president’s office, the event was held in response to the unpopular force university police used on a group of protestors last November. UC Berkeley officials agreed that improved police methods were needed at future demonstrations. Final provisions to protocol will be released in March.
