Campus Sports: News in Brief

Men’s Basketball:
It was a rough weekend for the Pioneers as they dropped both home games against first place Chico State and CSU Stanislaus.
Friday night’s affair saw the Pioneers defeated at the hands of Chico State by a score of 93-76 in front of a “jam the gym” crowd at the Pioneer gym. Both Mark Samuels and Roshun Wynne scored 19 points in the game, leading the Pioneer scoring attack, but their efforts were not enough to topple the Wildcats.
Looking to bounce back on Saturday night against Stanislaus, Mark Samuels for the second straight night, led the team in scoring with 26 points, but once again their efforts fell short as they were defeated 93-82.
They look to turn things around on the road, as they will travel back to southern California, along with the women’s basketball team, this weekend to face CSU Los Angeles on Friday, Jan. 27 and CSU Dominguez Hills on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Women’s Basketball:
The Pioneers women’s squad took one out of their two home games this weekend against Chico State and CSU Stanislaus.
Despite losing to Chico State on Friday night, Saturday night’s matchup had a much better outcome for the Pioneers as they outscored CSU Stanislaus 67-59 for the win. Junior Marlene MacMillan matched her career high with 25 points, contributing 13 rebounds in a solid performance on the night.
