It’s hard to deny talent. The naked eye can see it. The numbers people crunch the stats, and have deemed that Denver Broncos Quarterback Tim Tebow has just that: talent. The question is, how much?

I feel like I am fighting a losing battle every week I turn on the television to watch a Broncos game and there he is in his Christian glory. He can be seen praying on the sidelines with his teammates in hopes that his faith can give him and his team the courage to perform well on the field. We watch the man play on the field of battle.

Since the release of QB Kyle Orton to waivers week six (he was picked up by Kansas City) it was clear that Tebow was to be named the starting QB with Denver with only Brady Quinn as a backup option. The media has fallen in love with him ever since and it seems like we will all live happily ever after — except maybe Broncos GM John Elway, who continues to speculate whether or not Tebow is the future of the franchise.

Last week’s divine intervention of the great Tim Tebow took place in modified playoff overtime rules with an over- the-middle pass to Wide Receiver Demaryius Thomas that ended up in an 80-yard touchdown run that resulted in the game winning play, sending the limping Pittsburgh Steelers home. The rules stated at the coin toss that if the team that gets first possession scores on that first possession, the game is over. Tebow did just that and made a fool of me. He made a fool of all of us. People say he’s “flashing a little Elway.” Uh, I don’t think so. Elway is an NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback and SuperBowl Champion twice over. Tim Tebow is the Heisman winner here, I know.

I am not trying to deny the man’s talent. He is a hell of an athlete, but sometimes one-dimensional. I suggested that he be a running back. He did finish 28th of 50 in rushing yards among NFL Running Backs this season with 660. However, as a QB in the NFL he is lacking — at least for now.

Let’s be honest: the kid got into the playoffs because the Oakland Raiders shot themselves in the foot and lost to the San Diego Chargers. In the 2011 season, out of 33 NFL QBs Tebow ranked 33rd in completion percentage. Tebow passed for 709 yards his first six games of the season. In contrast, Aaron Rodgers threw for 2037. He has a bit of an abnormal throwing motion some say, but to me it looks like he can’t hit a deep receiver. To me it looks like he throws darts at the ground. To me it looks like he ranks dead last yet again at attempts per game at 19. He ranks dead last at yards per game at around 119. Even being mobile he was sacked 33 times, good for twelfth best. He threw for more than 40 yards only six times. You cannot and will not be a successful WB in the NFL if you cannot throw the ball.

Time and time again the NFL is called a “quarterback” league. The kid has the talent, no doubt, but can he channel it and become better? It’s starting to look like that. I put my face in my hands every time he proves me wrong. You should too.

Thanks for reading and welcome back.
