Dream House Turned into a Nightmare

“Dream House” does not live up to expectations as a thriller.“Dream House,” which hit theatres last Friday, leaves viewers with mixed emotions despite great potential.

From the trailers, it was perceived this film was going to be filled with eerie creatures and “jump right out of your seat” moments.
However the film ended up flipping its genre on the audience, shifting the theme of the movie and creating confusing twists and turns in the storyline.
Under the direction of Jim Sheridan and with a surprisingly talented film crew, the film racked up $8.2 million in its opening weekend.
The film focuses on a big-time editor who quits his job to spend more time with his family, who recently moved into a quiet New England town. Not long after settling in, the family is informed that a brutal murder took place in their home five years before they moved in.
The man of the house, Will Atenton, is played by actor Daniel Craig (“Quantum of Solace,” “Casino Royale”).
This film gave us a chance to see Craig, who is known for his portrayal of James Bond, perform phenomenally in a more family-friendly setting.
Will Atenton, his wife Libby—played by Rachel Weiss (“The Mummy,” “The Mummy Returns”)—and their two daughters, who did an exceptional acting job—start off as a very close and happy family.
When the family finds out about the murders, Atenton begins to investigate and worries his family may be the next target.
The acting was good, but the deceptive theme and cluttered plot are what sent the movie quickly downhill.
The beginning of the film is probably the most crucial part of the movie. In fact, if you’re running late and miss the first ten minutes, don’t even bother seeing the rest.
There are a plethora of characters at the start of the film that come together in piecing together the puzzle at the end of the story.
Although these characters do eventually come together to make sense out of the plot, the storyline still has gaps that leave the viewers simply confused.
The outcome was disappointing because though the movie seemed like it had a lot of thriller potential, it is instead more of a romantic suspense.
In the end, it was a shame to see such good acting go to waste.
