Students from California State University, East Bay gathered in front of the Recreation and Wellness Center with the Students for Quality Education on Friday, Sept. 6 to have their voices heard on recent immigration rights abuses. They protested in solidarity with alumni Isabel Bueso, who is at risk for deportation this month. Her health condition can not be maintained in her origin country, Guatemala, which will severely inhibit her survival once she is removed from the United States.

SQE members and other protestors chanted “Isabel is a fighter and she taught us how to fight, we gonna fight all day and night until we get it right. What side are you on my people, What side are you on?, WE ARE ON THE FREEDOM SIDE!“ on their way to Hayward City Hall.

Organizers Citlali Alejo and Odalis De La o Cortez wanted to bring awareness to Bueso’s situation during the Immigration Rights rally as a way of showing support for our former students and our undocumented students on and off-campus.
