The San Jose Earthquakes faced off against and tied the Spanish team Real Valladolid 1-1 in an inter- national friendly on July 16th, 2019 at Avaya Stadium. The friendly match in San Jose was a stop on the La Liga teams preseason tour but the game quickly turned into more than a friendly. Real Valladolid’s Sandro Castillo scored directly from a free kick given in the first half of the match and Real Valladolid substituted a majority of its on field players at the start of the second half, instantly increasing the in- tensity of the match.
