The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is an event that started back on Easter Sunday in 1979. Sisters from around the world have devoted themselves to the community, advocating for human rights, respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment. This year marks their 40th anniversary and a significant one being back at Dolores Park after it was closed off for renovations. The event featured live music, dance, drag, and the renown “Hunky Jesus” contest, the highlight of the celebration. The importance of this event is the work that is reflected in making this an overall inclusive community event to spread love, joy, humor, and beauty.

These images are a reflection of that very love, joy, humor, and beauty displayed throughout the crowd of sisters and the community. The abundance of support can be seen in the essence of each person. Most either meeting for the first time or catching up in conversation. Capturing those moments along with the portraits of the elaborate makeup and costumes depicted the characteristics that bring this event to light.
