Being a mean girl doesn’t make you a feminist

If you were partaking in Twitter After Dark you probably noticed the hashtag #WasteHerTime2016 nestled amongst the trending topics. Tweets using the hashtag described things you could do to girls to waste their time.

The hashtag was probably started by some sweaty dude eating chimichangas in his grandma’s basement, who was just thinking up examples of things of what a guy could do to waste a girls’ time. Popular tweets included things like: Go on a date then never text her again, make plans then flake, invite her on a double date then arrive with your girlfriend and ask her where her date is.

This morning,  #WasteHisTime2016 came out swinging with tweets that definitely showed the meaner side of women. For some odd reason, women tweeters thought that their response to the #WasteHerTime2016 hashtag was a form of feminist revolt.

Silly rabbit, feminism is about women empowerment not the power of being a mean girl. To tell a guy that you’ll send him nudes and instead you send a picture of nude lipstick does not make you a feminist, makes you funny, but not a feminist. Most feminists probably wouldn’t have offered to send nudes in the first place. #Snap

Hopefully 2016 will yield more meaningful hashtags that don’t serve as a douche bag tutorial.

Again, some of these are hilarious but don’t confuse it with feminism.
