On Sunday pilot David Olson made an emergency landing onto a golf course in Hayward, after the plane was piloting lost power shortly after take off.

The single engine plane departed from Hayward Executive Airport, and landed on SkyWest Golf Course adjacent to the airport, less than a mile away.

The plane was around 440 feet off the ground when it lost power, and one of the plane’s wings broke from clipping a tree on the way down and in the impact during an emergency landing, according to NBC Bay Area.

Firefighters reported to the scene around 12:45 p.m. and found no fire had ignited, despite an almost 10-gallon leak in fuel from the broken wing. Olson was the sole person on the plane and managed to remain unharmed during the accident. Firefighters cleaned the landing site and reported no injuries.

Witnesses who were at the golf course were able to see the crash, but no one was close enough to the crash to be in any danger.

This is not the first time a plane from Hayward Executive Airport has had to make an emergency landing on the golf course. In 2009, a plane that also experienced a flight issue immediately after departure landed on the golf course.

The Federal Aviation Administration was informed of the incident and is going to conduct an investigation, according to NBC Bay Area.
