The Kardashians Cement Themselves In Pop Culture

Kourtney, Kim and Khole Kardashian have expanded their money-making horizons in a way that may seem unexpected: they wrote a book.

“Kardashian Konfidential” is a triple tag-team autobiography of the three Kardashian sisters from the time they were very young, through their teen years and concluding with a “happy ending” with their current fame.

The women discuss everything, from what it was like growing up rich but still having to work and do chores, to finding their own identities in such a large family, and even a small section on the famed O.J. Simpson trial in which their father, Robert Kardashian, was one of Simpson’s lawyer.

Of course, it is almost an obligation to their fans to discuss the controversial trial, since it was such a stressful time in the young girls’ lives, but it was delicately mentioned and personal opinions were left out.

Mostly, the sisters explained what it was like to be a child with a father in the center of such a heated debate and what effect it had on family life.

The book was largely focused on the principle of family and how important it is to all three women.

Littered throughout the 300-page book are handwritten notes the girls used to write each other growing up, asking each other to be their Valentine or to check up on how a sister’s grounding was going.

It is a sentimental side fans of the authors’ show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” rarely get to see because of all the bickering, blowouts and vulgar sex talk that have famously become a staple of the program.

The vulnerability that sometimes exudes from this book can be touching to Kardashian fans, but for those unfamiliar with the family, the book can seem frivolous and self-absorbed.

Kim, the second oldest of the sisters, is arguably the most famous and most desired. Her curvaceous figure has long been a fantasy of men all over the world.

Perhaps because of this, she is the only sister to have a photo spread in the middle of the book. While Kourtney and Khloe tell stories of their past, Kim frequently keeps guard and defaults to writing about fashion.

One of the few times Kim does divulge personal information, she comes off as needy and a bit of a drama queen who cannot handle stress. While it cannot exactly be said that her anecdotes are whiny, there is a certain fakeness that sets her sections apart from that of her sisters.

Khloe, the baby of the three, gets much more personal. Her stories about her out-of-control youth, which includes sneaking out of her house when she was 16 and getting into a car accident that sent her through the windshield, can sometimes be a bit of an overshare.

With her wild stories and shameless sexual references, Khloe appears to be the woman who you never want your daughter to hang out with for the fear she would be a bad influence.

The eldest, Kourtney, comes off as the most grounded. Stories of her college experience and business savvy are refreshing in the midst Kim’s lack of personality and Khloe’s overwhelming character.

Though Kourtney has her share of rotten moments, like how she used to torment Kim and attack her self-esteem, for the most part she seems tamed.

While it might be expected that the new mother would bore the audience with endless stories of her son, Mason, Kourtney lovingly talks about how her child has completed her life without beating the subject to death.

Overall, the book is not very well written. Sentence fragments and colloquial language makes the “tell-all” autobiography hard to follow at times and unprofessional.

Those who are not Kardashian fans will have a difficult time understanding certain aspects of the book, like who their stepfather Bruce Jenner is and how important he really is to the women, because there isn’t much background to a lot of what they say.

This book was written for Kardashian fans who already have a general knowledge of their lives, but it can, ironically, be disappointing to this same group.

Kourtney, Kim and Khloe don’t discuss anything different from what is already seen on the show, except for maybe a little more on their father.

“Kardashian Konfidential” is a nice, light read for those looking to escape from the real world and read about three sisters who really do love each other. The closeness of the sisters and how they affectionately talk about each other is the saving grace for the book.

However, for fans looking to know more about the Kardashians, this book will not satisfy your appetite.
