Word on the Street – What Are Your Shuttle Experiences?

“I started using the shuttle for the past few days because I don’t have a parking pass. I [drive] to the Castro Valley shuttle station since it’s closest to my house. In the mornings it’s not bad at all from the BART station to here, but when I have to go back I have to wait at least 30 to 45 minutes. It’s alright; it helps me out a lot, for sure, since it’s free… …They have a schedule, of course, but usually it’s always 10 to 15 minutes late so you can’t really depend on that.”

– Tyler Swanson, Psychology Major
Total commute time: 2 hours

Today I made it [to class] right on time, I just got off BART station and the shuttle was there; I ran towards it and it stopped for me and I made it on time… …This is actually the first time I’ve had to wait in a line but maybe it’s just the time of day.”

– Marissa Vera-Mendoza
Total commute time: 15 minutes

“It’s horrible because I’m in my master’s degree here so I finish school at six or eight p.m.  I can not pay to go by bus to BART station because I’m already paying everyday ten to thirty dollars for BART. I come all the way from Concord, I hope they can fix this problem. As you can see, the first shuttle already went away and now we are waiting for the second shuttle. I don’t think I will be on that second shuttle; I will be on the third one.”

– Eman Alharbi, Applied Mathematics, Masters
Total commute time: 2 1/2 hour

“I was late this morning… …I think during peak hours, they should increase the routes… …Obviously, they should have more shuttles running in the morning at the BART station and in the afternoon from school to the station. It would be cool if they did other stops, not just to BART; maybe somewhere along the way… …It’s definitely affecting academic performance because you are always late.”

– Summi Rizbi, Health Science Major
Total commute time: 45 minutes – 1 hour

“I live right next to the Hayward BART station so pretty much everyday I have to wait at least 3 times for the bus to come because there is an extremely long line. I need to be in class at 10 o’clock so I have to leave my house about 8:50 a.m. to be on time… …Coming back home also takes at least two to three bus rounds or cycles to have it available to go and drop me off. Each time, I have to wait at least 15, 30 to 45 minutes for the bus. For classes, I’ve always been late so far; for commuting, it makes it harder.”
