Redwood City: President Obama visited the Bay Area Wednesday afternoon through this morning to continue raising money for his re-election campaign. He made a scheduled stop in Atherton for a fundraising dinner where tickets cost $35,800 per person. Then it was on to Redwood City’s Fox Theater for a rally, where tickets cost around $1,000 per person. Several Occupy Redwood City members were outside the theater protesting economic injustices. His last stop was originally slated for Palo Alto, but was moved to the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, scheduled for Thursday morning, where he was to meet with members of the Asian and Pacific Islander community, where tickets were again $35,800 apiece.

Oakland: As reported by the Oakland Tribune, Occupy Oakland members disrupted a city council meeting Tuesday night, where a committee was attempting to vote on a proposal to ban certain items during protests. The ordinance that was being proposed would make it so Oakland police could arrest and quickly remove protestors simply for carrying items such as shields, clubs, hammers, and paint projectiles. These have been some of the popular choices during protests for what Occupiers call self-defense from the police. The meeting was full of shouting, cursing, threats and was eventually ended early because of the interruptions.

Hayward: As reported by KQED, Hayward resident and 7th grader at Fremont’s Prince of Peace Christian School, Varun Mahadevan, 13, will compete against nine other students from around the country in the National Geographic Bee finals tonight at 8 p.m. The bee aims to raise awareness around the country about geography and to spark interest in the subject in young students.

San Lorenzo: As reported by the Wall Street Journal MarketWatch, The San Lorenzo Unified School District (SLZUSD) and Chevron Energy Solutions announced the completion of their joint solar energy project on Monday at the San Lorenzo High gymnasium. Over the lifespan of the project, the district anticipates generating $4.5 million in savings to the district’s general fund, where it can then be used to strengthen the district’s academic performance and enhance student achievement. The project is being financed through Measure O, a general obligation bond passed by voters in November 2008.
