Prior to 2009, President Barack Obama approached the topic of medicinal marijuana growth with a complete hands off approach, stating he would only go after growers who were not operating within both federal and state laws.
The future looks bleak for medical marijuana growers, especially after a bipartisan bill aimed to cut funding for medical marijuana raids was struck down earlier this month in the House of Representatives.
Local places like Oaksterdam University in Oakland were raided by federal officials, as well as other businesses owned by founder Richard Lee.
Growers who operate in accordance with California state laws have to look over their shoulder for fear of jail time.
